WORKSHOPS
FOR CONGO

A project inspired by….
An initiative of Friends of the Congo, inspired by Workshops4Gaza and Workshops4Sudan, Workshops4Congo is a popular education project that is meant to raise consciousness and mobilize the masses around the longstanding and ongoing genocide that has been occurring in the heart of Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Our work is situated within the legacy of Pan-African movements and struggles. As Pan-African revolutionary Malcolm X stated, “As long as we think that we should get Mississippi straightened out before we worry about the Congo, you’ll never get Mississippi straightened out.” In that same spirit, we understand the liberation of Congolese people to be inherently intertwined with the liberation of all people of African descent, on the continent and in the diaspora.
Congolese people don’t need us to save them; they need our solidarity. Our comrades of the Basandja Coalition are doing the work on the ground to meet the immediate and material needs of the Congolese people, including providing food at displacement camps, rescuing children from cobalt mines, providing care to victims of sexual violence, and much more. All proceeds from workshops will be going to the Coalition so that they are able to continue and expand their work. No matter how big or small, every contribution counts.
